This tiny gold dollar, minted in 1852, carries an extraordinary connection to one of the most famous maritime disasters in American history. Recovered from the deep-sea wreckage of the SS Central America, this coin survived the tragic 1857 sinking of the legendary steamship, which was carrying tons of gold from the California Gold Rush. Finding a coin with such a direct link to this historic shipwreck offers a tangible connection to the era of maritime transport and the gold rush boom. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, the coin features a classic design by James Longacre. The obverse presents a left-facing bust of Liberty, encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the date 1852 positioned below.
