1852 Large Cent Fine

0.0000 troy oz 1852 Fine

In the decade preceding the American Civil War, the United States government issued a substantial copper coin that felt heavy and significant in the hand. The 1852 Large Cent represents this bygone era of American currency, minted at a time when a single penny carried genuine purchasing power. Struck in pure copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is a tangible survivor from the mid nineteenth century, preserved in Fine condition. The obverse of the coin features the Braided Hair Liberty design, created by Christian Gobrecht. Liberty is depicted in profile, her hair styled in an elegant braid secured with a coronet. On the reverse, a delicate wreath encircles the denomination, which is clearly stated as One Cent. Surrounding this central wreath is the bold perimeter legend reading United States of America.
