0.0484 troy oz .900 1852 Almost Unc

In 1852, the United States Mint in New Orleans struck a limited run of 140,000 small gold dollars. Today, these tiny treasures are highly prized by historians, especially since a vast number of the original mintage was melted down over the decades. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the delicate details of its mid nineteenth century craftsmanship. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty. Her hair is bound by a band clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY, and she is encircled by thirteen stars representing the original American colonies. This classic gold design represents a fascinating era of early American coinage. On the reverse, the coin displays its face value of 1 DOLLAR alongside the year 1852, encircled by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Struck from 90 percent pure gold, this coin contains 0.0483 troy ounces of precious metal. The presence of the O mint mark denotes its historic origin at the Southern minting facility in Louisiana.
