Struck in the year 1853, this ten-dollar gold piece represents a classic era of American coinage. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin belongs to a long-running design series that spanned from 1838 to 1907. This particular issue had a mintage of 201,253 pieces, each composed of 90 percent gold and containing 0.4838 troy ounces of the precious metal. It survives today in an About Uncirculated state, preserving the fine details of its mid-nineteenth-century craftsmanship.
