1855 $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle AU-50 PCGS

0.1209 troy oz .900 1855 PCGS

This 1855 gold coin represents a classic era of United States coinage, originating from the historic Philadelphia Mint. Striking 235,480 of these pieces during that year, the mint produced a design that has become a staple of mid-nineteenth-century American currency. This particular specimen survives in About Uncirculated AU-50 condition, showcasing the remaining luster and detail from its brief time in commerce before being preserved. Struck from 90 percent gold, the coin contains 0.1209 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features the iconic Coronet Head style, also widely recognized as the Liberty Head design, which defined the look of American gold denominations for decades. The year 1855 is boldly anchored at the base of the portrait. The reverse of this two and a half dollar denomination displays the classic national imagery of a heraldic eagle. Surrounding the central motif are the inscriptions indicating the issuing nation, the United States of America, alongside the denomination expressed as two and a half dollars.
