In 1855, the United States Mint produced a striking copper large cent that captures the artistry of early American coinage. This particular specimen, preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, belongs to the 'Upright 5s' design variety, which is distinguished by the specific vertical alignment of the numbers in the date. The obverse of this copper coin features the classic Liberty head design, facing left, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed on her hair band and the date 1855 positioned directly below the bust. This portrait represents a transitional era in American copper coinage, showcasing the meticulous engraving work of the period. On the reverse, a delicate wreath encircles the denomination ONE CENT. Surrounding this central motif is the bold inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, wrapping around the outer perimeter of the coin.
