1857 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle AU-58 PCGS

0.4838 troy oz .900 1857 PCGS

In 1857, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of just 16,606 gold ten-dollar coins. Today, encountering one of these Liberty Eagles is a notable event for those who appreciate early American gold coinage. This particular specimen survives in an exceptional state of preservation, graded as About Uncirculated 58 (AU-58), meaning it retained nearly all of its original detail before being withdrawn from circulation. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, it bears no mint mark. The obverse features the classic profile of Liberty wearing a coronet, dated 1857, while the reverse displays the proud eagle design surrounded by the legend denoting the United States of America and the ten-dollar face value.
