For nearly a century, these substantial copper pieces were a staple of daily commerce across the United States. This particular coin represents the Large Date variety of that final year, minted without a mint mark. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty with her hair styled in a braided fashion, encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. On the reverse, the words "ONE CENT" are nestled inside a detailed wreath, which is itself surrounded by the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
