1864 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle AU-55 NGC

0.4837 troy oz .900 1864 NGC

The year 1864 saw an incredibly small production of the ten dollar gold piece at the Philadelphia Mint. With only 3,530 of these coins struck, surviving examples are exceptionally scarce. This particular piece has survived the generations in About Uncirculated condition, officially graded as AU-55, preserving the intricate details of its mid nineteenth century craftsmanship. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold with a gold content of 0.4837 troy ounces, the coin features the classic Liberty design on its obverse, her hair bound with a band inscribed with the word LIBERTY, positioned above the 1864 date. The reverse displays a proud eagle surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination expressed as TEN D. Because it was struck at the main mint in Philadelphia, it bears no mintmark, representing a quiet witness to a turbulent era in American history.
