1865-S $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU-53 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1865 Almost Unc - 53 (PCGS)

Struck during the final year of the American Civil War, this 1865 gold coin represents a remarkable survivor from the San Francisco Mint. Carrying a twenty-dollar denomination, the coin is composed of 90 percent gold, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of the precious metal. It has been certified in Almost Uncirculated 53 condition, preserving the intricate details of its mid-nineteenth-century craftsmanship despite more than a century and a half of existence. The obverse features a classic portrait of Liberty facing left, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the date 1865 positioned at the base. On the reverse, the heraldic eagle design is encircled by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TWENTY D. The distinct 'S' mint mark is present, identifying its origin from the western branch of the United States Mint, which produced 1,042,500 of these double eagles.
