0.0000 troy oz 1867 Very Fine

The 1867 Two Cent Piece offers a fascinating window into the design sensibilities of nineteenth century American coinage. Struck in pure copper, this coin features a bold shield, or escutcheon, on its obverse. This central motif was intended to represent strength and protective power achieved through national unity, a poignant theme for its era. Above the shield, the legendary motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is clearly displayed, while the year 1867 is anchored at the bottom. On the reverse side, the design transitions to a more agrarian theme. An ornate wreath woven from wheat ears encircles the large, central denomination of '2 CENTS'. Around the outer edge of the reverse, the inscription 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' frames the entire composition. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, allowing observers to appreciate the fine details of both the protective shield and the delicate wheat wreath.
