0.4838 troy oz .900 1868 PCGS

In 1868, the San Francisco Mint struck a remarkably small run of ten-dollar gold coins, totaling just 13,500 pieces. Bearing the 'S' mint mark, these Liberty Gold Eagles represent a fascinating era of Western American coining, where precious metal was transformed into circulating currency. This specific survivor has been certified in About Uncirculated 58 (AU-58) condition, indicating it escaped heavy wear and retains much of its original luster. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. Its design features classic American imagery, including the profile of Liberty on the obverse and a heraldic eagle on the reverse. Legible inscriptions on the surfaces include the national motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' as well as 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and the denomination 'TEN D.'
