The 1869 Two Cent Piece offers a fascinating window into the evolving designs of American coinage during the post-Civil War era. Struck in pure copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this denomination holds a distinctive place in monetary history as one of the few times a two-cent value was ever circulated in the United States. Drifting above the shield is a scroll bearing the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, while the year 1869 is clearly stamped below. On the reverse, a highly detailed wreath of wheat ears and leafy branches curves around the central denomination of 2 CENTS.
