In 1874, the Philadelphia Mint struck a remarkably small and delicate gold coin with a face value of one dollar. Containing just under 0.05 troy ounces of gold (approximately 0.0484 ounces), this tiny treasure represents a fascinating era in American currency when precious metal circulated in everyday denominations. The obverse of the coin features the elegant Liberty Head design, a classic profile that defined much of nineteenth-century United States coinage. This specific specimen has survived the decades in remarkable condition, earning a high certified grade of Mint State 63 (MS-63).
