In 1874, the San Francisco Mint struck a limited run of just 10,000 gold ten-dollar pieces. This particular Liberty Gold Eagle survived the decades in remarkable condition, surviving to the present day with an About Uncirculated 58 grade. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal, representing a bygone era of American circulating gold coinage. The obverse features the classic profile of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with her name, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the 1874 date positioned below. On the reverse, an eagle holds an olive branch and arrows, shielded by a scroll bearing the national motto. The mintmark "S" is visible below the eagle, indicating its origin at the San Francisco facility, just above the denomination of ten dollars.
