1875-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU-58 PCGS

In 1875, the Carson City Mint struck a limited run of 111,151 gold double eagles, each carrying a face value of twenty dollars. These heavy gold pieces were workhorses of commerce in the American West, meaning very few survived the decades without showing heavy wear. This particular specimen is a notable exception, preserved in an About Uncirculated state (AU-58) that retains much of its original luster and detail. The obverse of the coin features the classic left-facing portrait of Liberty, her hair secured with a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Below the bust, the date 1875 is clearly visible. On the reverse, the coin displays a heraldic eagle beneath a canopy of stars and a rayed halo containing the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The eagle holds an olive branch and arrows, flanked by ornate scrolls. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA wraps around the upper rim, while the denomination TWENTY D. is struck at the bottom. Just above the denomination, the famous CC mint mark identifies this coin as a product of the historic Nevada facility, adding a tangible link to the silver and gold rushes of the era.
