In 1875, the San Francisco Mint struck a significant run of twenty-dollar gold coins, totaling 1,230,000 pieces. This particular specimen survived the decades in an exceptional state of preservation, earning a certified grade of Mint State 61 (MS-61). Representing the Pre-1933 era of American coinage, the coin is composed of 90 percent gold, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. This double eagle belongs to the classic Coronet Head series. The obverse features the iconic left-facing portrait of Liberty, her hair secured with a coronet, surrounded by stars with the date 1875 positioned at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, shielded and flanked by ornate scrolls. Above the eagle, the national motto reads IN GOD WE TRUST, surrounded by the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the twenty-dollar denomination.
