0.9675 troy oz .900 1876 MS-60 (NGC)

Struck in the year of the United States centennial, this 1876 twenty-dollar gold piece represents a historic era of American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this specific coin features no mint mark, which was the standard practice for the nation's primary minting facility at the time. Out of an original mintage of 583,860 pieces, this specimen has survived in Mint State 60 (MS-60) condition, preserving its original luster and details for over a century. This coin is composed of 90 percent gold, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of the precious metal. As a prominent representative of the Coronet Head series, also known as the Liberty Gold Double Eagle, the design features a classical portrait of Liberty on the obverse. She is depicted facing left, her hair secured with a coronet, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the date 1876 positioned below. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, shielded and surrounded by the country's name, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Above the eagle, the religious motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is nestled within an oval of stars. The denomination is inscribed at the bottom as "TWENTY D.", representing its twenty-dollar face value. This coin stands as a remarkable physical survivor of nineteenth-century American commerce, certified in uncirculated condition.
