1876-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU-55 PCGS
1876-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU-55 PCGS
Struck in the historic Carson City Mint, this 1876 twenty-dollar gold coin represents a fascinating era in American coinage. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of pure gold, the coin is composed of 90 percent gold. Its survival in an About Uncirculated condition (AU-55) allows observers to appreciate the intricate details of its mid-nineteenth-century design. The obverse side, created by James Longacre, features a left-facing portrait of Liberty adorned with a coronet. The word "LIBERTY" is clearly inscribed across her crown, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1876 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle holds a shield against its chest, clutching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. Above the eagle, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is nestled within an oval of stars, an addition that was integrated into the design in 1866. The outer rim is inscribed with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the abbreviated denomination "TWENTY D.", which was the standard abbreviation format used during this production year.
