1876-S Liberty Seated Dime Fine

In 1876, the San Francisco Mint struck this ten-cent silver piece, a surviving representative of the classic Liberty Seated coinage that circulated widely during the nineteenth century. Composed of 90% silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. As a sovereign issue of the United States, it carries the full backing of the federal government. The obverse features the iconic depiction of Liberty seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The year 1876 is clearly struck beneath the figure. On the reverse, a delicate wreath encircles the face value, which is written out as ONE DIME, surrounded by the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This specific specimen has survived in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated in commerce.
