In 1882, the Carson City Mint in Nevada struck a limited run of just 82,817 gold five-dollar coins. Today, surviving examples of these Coronet Head half eagles offer a tangible connection to the American West during a booming era of frontier coinage. This particular specimen has survived in About Uncirculated condition, officially graded as AU-53. Struck from 90 percent pure gold, the coin contains 0.2419 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features the classic Liberty design facing left, surrounded by stars, with the year 1882 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, the American eagle holds an olive branch and arrows, flanked by the denomination and the United States of America inscription. Most notably, the reverse bears the famous 'CC' mint mark above the denomination, indicating its origin at the celebrated Carson City facility.
