In 1883, the Philadelphia Mint produced more than sixteen million of these copper-nickel five-cent pieces. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 62 condition, preserving the crisp details of its nineteenth-century artistry. The obverse showcases a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty, her hair adorned with a coronet and a woven wreath. The date 1883 is positioned at the bottom, beneath her portrait. On the reverse, a decorative wreath encircles a prominent Roman numeral V, representing the five-cent denomination. Unlike the initial release of this design, this version clearly displays the word CENTS along the bottom rim to prevent confusion over the coin's face value.
