1885 Liberty Seated Dime XF

0.0715 troy oz .900 1885 Extra Fine

The 1885 Liberty Seated dime represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this ten-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Surviving in Extra Fine condition, this coin showcases the intricate details of a design that circulated widely during the nineteenth century. On the obverse side, the legendary design by Christian Gobrecht features Lady Liberty seated on a rock. In her hands, she holds a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, while her other hand rests on a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The year 1885 is clearly struck at the bottom of the coin, surrounded by the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA along the rim. The reverse of the coin is simpler but equally elegant. It features a lush wreath that frames the denomination, ONE DIME, at its center. This combination of symbolic imagery and functional design makes the Liberty Seated series a fascinating subject for study and historical appreciation.
