1887-S Liberty Seated Dime XF

0.0715 troy oz .900 1887 Extra Fine

Struck in the late nineteenth century at the San Francisco Mint, this 1887 silver dime represents a classic era of United States coinage. Crafted from 90% silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Having survived in Extra Fine condition, it retains crisp details from its original production, offering a clear window into the craftsmanship of the period. The obverse of the coin presents Christian Gobrecht's celebrated design of Lady Liberty. She is depicted sitting peacefully, holding a staff topped with a Phrygian cap in one hand while resting her other hand upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Below this central figure, the year 1887 is clearly visible. On the reverse side, the design features a detailed wreath that encircles the denomination, which is spelled out as ONE DIME. The outer edge is inscribed with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This simple yet elegant combination of wreath and text showcases the artistic sensibilities of American coinage during the pre-1933 era.
