Struck in the final years of a long-running American numismatic era, this 1888 silver dime from the San Francisco Mint showcases the enduring Liberty Seated motif. Composed of 90% silver, containing approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal, this ten-cent piece represents a tangible artifact from late nineteenth-century United States commerce. The obverse features the classic depiction of Liberty seated upon a rock, holding a shield in one hand and a staff topped with a liberty cap in the other. This elegant design, created by Christian Gobrecht, served as a cornerstone of American coinage for over half a century. The year 1888 is clearly inscribed beneath the seated figure. On the reverse, a delicate wreath encircles the central denomination. The words "ONE DIME" are prominently displayed within the leafy border, signifying its status as official United States currency. This particular specimen survives in Circulated condition, graded as Almost Good, showing the honest wear of a coin that passed through many hands during its time in circulation.
