The five-cent piece minted in 1890 offers a window into late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this copper-nickel coin belongs to the celebrated Liberty Head series, a design created by Charles Barber. The coin's obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, who wears a crown inscribed with her name, surrounded by stars with the date positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, the coin displays a prominent Roman numeral V, representing its five-cent value. This central numeral is encircled by a decorative wreath, which is itself surrounded by the legend denoting the United States of America and the traditional motto, E Pluribus Unum. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, showing moderate wear but retaining clear details of the original engraving.
