1890 Liberty Head V Nickel XF

0.0000 troy oz 1890 Extra Fine

The 1890 Liberty Head five-cent piece offers a captivating look at late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck in Philadelphia, this base-metal coin contains no precious metal, yet it stands as a testament to the artistic sensibilities of its era. This particular specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, displaying the crisp details of its original engraving with remarkable clarity. On the obverse, the design showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a coronet inscribed with her name, while her hair is pulled back elegantly, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Below her portrait, the date 1890 is clearly struck. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a large Roman numeral V, denoting its five-cent face value. This central numeral is encircled by a wreath of wheat, cotton, and corn. The legend reads United States of America around the upper rim, while the motto E Pluribus Unum is nestled below, just above the word Cents at the bottom border.
