The year 1890 marked the penultimate year of a classic American numismatic era. This ten-cent piece, struck in 90% fine silver, belongs to the celebrated Liberty Seated series, which graced United States coinage for over half a century. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal and stands as a fully authorized, sovereign issue backed by the United States government. On the obverse side, the design by Christian Gobrecht presents Lady Liberty resting upon a rock. In her left hand, she supports a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her right hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The arching legend reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with the year 1890 anchored firmly at the bottom. The reverse of this dime is framed by a delicate wreath that encircles the central denomination. The words ONE DIME are clearly struck at the center, surrounded by the detailed foliage.
