1891-CC $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle VF Details (Cleaned)
In 1891, the Carson City Mint in Nevada struck a limited number of five-dollar gold coins, known to enthusiasts as the Liberty Head half eagle. This particular coin survives today in Very Fine details, showing signs of past cleaning but retaining the distinct characteristics of late 19th-century American coinage. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, it contains 0.2419 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features the classic profile of Liberty, her hair styled in a bun with loose curls falling down her neck, wearing a coronet inscribed with her name. The year 1891 is boldly struck below her portrait. On the reverse, an eagle holds an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by the legend indicating the nation of origin, with the famous "CC" mint mark of Carson City positioned below the eagle.
