1891-O Liberty Seated Dime VG
The year 1891 marked the final chapter for one of America's most enduring nineteenth-century coin designs. This Liberty Seated dime, struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, represents the culmination of a classic era in United States coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, this ten-cent piece has survived in a circulated, Very Good condition, carrying the gentle wear of a coin that once passed through the hands of everyday citizens in the late 1800s. On the obverse side, the design by Christian Gobrecht presents Lady Liberty seated upon a rock. In one hand, she supports a staff topped with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, while her other hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The date 1891 is positioned beneath her feet, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The reverse of the coin features a simple yet elegant wreath that circles the central denomination, ONE DIME. Beneath this wreath, the distinctive 'O' mint mark indicates its origin at the New Orleans facility. This coin stands as a tangible connection to the pre-1933 era of American silver coinage, showcasing a design that defined the nation's pocket change for over half a century.
