The five cent piece underwent a classic transformation in the late nineteenth century, resulting in the iconic Liberty Head design. This 1892 copper nickel specimen, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, showcases the artistry of Charles Barber during a vibrant era of American coinage. Even in an Almost Good state of preservation, the essential elements of this historic design remain recognizable, offering a tangible link to the everyday commerce of the late 1800s. The front of the coin presents a left facing portrait of Liberty, who wears a coronet or crown inscribed with her name. On the reverse, the design centers around a prominent letter V, which functions as the Roman numeral for five. This central character is encircled by a decorative wreath, which is itself surrounded by the national motto E Pluribus Unum and the name of the issuing country.
