Introduced in the late nineteenth century, the Liberty Head five-cent piece represents a fascinating era in American coinage. The year 1892 saw the Philadelphia Mint strike these base-metal coins, which contain no precious metal but carry immense historical charm. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin's front displays a dignified portrait of Liberty wearing a crown, while the year 1892 is struck clearly below the bust. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a large Roman numeral V, representing the five-cent denomination. This central numeral is encircled by a decorative wreath, with the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM positioned at the very bottom. This example is preserved in Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated through the daily commerce of the late 1800s.
