1892 Liberty Head V Nickel VF

0.0000 troy oz 1892 Very Fine

The five cent piece underwent a dramatic transformation in the late nineteenth century, resulting in the classic Liberty Head design. This 1892 edition, preserved in Very Fine condition, showcases the artistry of Charles Barber. The obverse features a left facing portrait of Liberty, who wears a crown inscribed with her name, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the date of production at the bottom. On the reverse, the coin features a large Roman numeral V to denote its five cent value. This central numeral is encircled by a decorative wreath, which is itself surrounded by the legend naming the United States of America. The traditional motto, E Pluribus Unum, is positioned at the very bottom of the design. Struck in Philadelphia, this base metal coin contains no precious metal, representing a durable piece of everyday American commerce from the Gilded Age.
