In 1892, the United States Mint at New Orleans struck a remarkably small run of ten-dollar gold coins, totaling just 28,688 pieces. Today, finding one of these Liberty Head gold eagles is a notable event for enthusiasts, as the vast majority of the original mintage has been lost to time, melting, or heavy circulation.
