The 1893 Liberty Head five-cent piece offers a fascinating glimpse into late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck by the United States Mint in Philadelphia, this coin is composed of base metal rather than precious silver or gold, yet its historical design remains highly compelling. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, a state of preservation where the finer details of the engraving remain remarkably distinct. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a coronet crown. For a coin in this state of preservation, a key detail is the complete and legible word LIBERTY inscribed across her crown. Below her portrait, the year 1893 is clearly visible, anchoring the piece to the final decade of the 1800s. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a large Roman numeral V, representing its five-cent face value.
