1897 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle MS-63 NGC

In 1897, the Philadelphia Mint produced just over one million ten-dollar gold coins, none of which bear a mint mark. This particular survivor has been graded as Mint State 63 (MS-63), indicating it has retained much of its original luster and detail over more than a century. Struck from 90 percent pure gold, this piece contains 0.4838 troy ounces of the precious metal. The obverse displays the date 1897, representing a classic era of American gold coinage before the designs of the early twentieth century transformed the nation's currency.
