0.0000 troy oz 1898 Almost Unc

The 1898 Liberty Head five-cent piece offers a fascinating glimpse into late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck in Philadelphia, this coin belongs to a celebrated series defined by its bold, classical imagery. The obverse presents a dignified profile of Liberty, who wears a crown inscribed with her own name. Thirteen stars encircle her portrait, representing the original American colonies, with the year 1898 anchored at the bottom. Turning the coin over reveals the striking reverse design that gave this series its popular nickname. A large Roman numeral V, representing the five-cent denomination, sits at the center of a decorative wreath. This central motif is framed by the national motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, which is positioned just above the wreath, and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA wrapping around the outer rim. This particular specimen survives in an impressive Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details envisioned by its creator, Charles Barber.
