1901-O $10 Liberty Gold Eagle AU

0.4838 troy oz .900 1901 Almost Unc

This ten dollar gold piece, minted in 1901, represents a fascinating survivor from the historic New Orleans Mint. Bearing the 'O' mint mark, this coin is part of a limited original mintage of just 72,041 pieces. Over the decades, vast numbers of these gold coins were melted down, making surviving specimens in About Uncirculated condition particularly compelling for those who appreciate scarce monetary history. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a hair band inscribed with her name. Thirteen stars encircle her, representing the original colonies. On the reverse, a majestic heraldic eagle guards a shield on its breast. The bird is framed by the legend 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and the 'TEN D.' denomination. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, each coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal.
