In 1903, the New Orleans Mint produced a limited run of 112,771 gold ten-dollar pieces, a denomination often referred to as the Gold Eagle. Today, surviving examples from this southern mint are highly prized by those who appreciate the artistry and journey of early American coinage. This particular specimen is certified in Almost Uncirculated 55 condition, showing that it spent very little time in active circulation before being preserved. Struck from 90 percent pure gold, the coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features the classic Liberty design, wearing a coronet inscribed with her name, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1903 anchored at the bottom. The reverse displays a powerful heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, shielded by the national crest. Above the eagle, a banner displays the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," while the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" wraps around the upper rim. At the bottom, the face value is designated as "TEN D." just above the distinct "O" mint mark, which proudly identifies this coin as a product of the historic New Orleans facility.
