1905 Liberty Head V Nickel XF

0.0000 troy oz 1905 Extra Fine

The 1905 Liberty Head five-cent piece represents a classic era of American coinage. Crafted under the artistic direction of Charles Barber, this nickel showcases a dignified portrait of Liberty on its obverse. She is depicted facing left, wearing a coronet crown inscribed with her name, LIBERTY, while the year 1905 is positioned clearly beneath the portrait. Turning the coin over reveals the bold reverse design that gave the series its popular nickname. A large Roman numeral V, representing the five-cent denomination, sits at the center. This numeral is encircled by a decorative wreath. The surrounding inscriptions include the national motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, positioned at the top, and the issuing country, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, wrapping around the lower border. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the fine details of the crown, hair, and wreath. As a sovereign coin backed by the United States government, it offers a tangible look at the everyday currency circulating at the dawn of the twentieth century.
