In 1906, the Denver Mint produced a significant run of ten-dollar gold coins, yielding a total mintage of 981,000 pieces. This specific issue belongs to a long-running series struck between 1838 and 1907 across several United States minting facilities, including Philadelphia, Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, and San Francisco. Each coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of pure gold, alloyed to a fineness of 0.900. The design, created by Christian Gobrecht, presents a left-facing profile of Liberty on the obverse. She wears a hair band inscribed with the word LIBERTY, and thirteen stars encircle her portrait to represent the original colonies. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stands with a protective shield across its chest. The bird is encircled by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination, TEN D.
