Struck in 1907, this United States gold quarter eagle represents the final year of a classic design era. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin carries a face value of two and a half dollars and contains 0.1209 troy ounces of pure gold within its 90 percent gold composition. Out of a total mintage of 336,294 pieces for that year, very few survive in such an exceptional state of preservation. The obverse features the iconic profile of Liberty, her hair bound up, wearing a coronet inscribed with her name. Thirteen stars encircle her portrait, representing the original colonies, with the date of manufacture positioned below. The reverse displays a proud heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by the country's name and the denomination abbreviated as "2 1/2 D." This particular specimen is graded Mint State 65 (MS-65), indicating a highly lustrous surface and minimal contact marks from its time at the mint. Because Philadelphia coins of this era did not feature a mint mark, the space below the eagle remains clear, distinguishing it from branch mint issues.
