The 1908 Liberty Head nickel represents a classic era of United States five-cent coinage. This particular specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, offering a clear look at a design that circulated widely during the early twentieth century. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which was standard practice for the facility at the time. On the obverse, the design by Charles Barber showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1908 positioned at the bottom. The details of her hair and the crown remain remarkably distinct due to the coin's high state of preservation. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a large Roman numeral V, denoting the five-cent face value. This central element is encircled by a wreath of agricultural products, including ears of wheat, corn, and cotton. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arches along the top rim, while the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is nestled just above the wreath, and the word CENTS anchors the bottom design.
