The 1909 Liberty Head nickel represents the final years of a classic American coin series. Struck in Philadelphia, this five cent piece showcases the artistry of Charles Barber, who created a design that circulated widely during a period of rapid national growth. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty faces left, adorned with a coronet or crown that displays her name. The year 1909 is positioned at the bottom, beneath the portrait. This particular specimen survives in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that passed through many hands at the turn of the twentieth century. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a large Roman numeral V, representing the five cent denomination. This central symbol is encircled by a wreath, which is itself surrounded by the inscription United States of America.
