The 1909 Liberty Head nickel represents the final years of a classic United States five-cent design. The front of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of Liberty, who wears a crown inscribed with her name. The year 1909 is positioned at the bottom, framed by stars along the border. This obverse portrait was created by Charles Barber, whose work defined much of the nation's coinage during this era. On the reverse, the coin features a prominent Roman numeral V, representing its five-cent face value.
