A vertical 'S' was stamped over an initial, horizontal 'S' punch, leaving visible remnants of the sideways letter nested within the final upright mark. While the San Francisco Mint produced 1,825,000 Lincoln Cents overall during this debut year, the exact number of coins struck with this horizontal overdate remains a mystery, though experts estimate the number is exceptionally low. This particular specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, allowing the intricate details of Lincoln's bust, the wheat stalks, and the unusual mint mark punch to remain clearly visible.
