1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent AU-50 PCGS

0.0000 troy oz 1909 Almost Unc - 50 (PCGS)

The 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent represents one of the most famous chapters in American numismatics. Minted during the inaugural year of the Lincoln penny series, this specific issue from the San Francisco Mint has captured the imagination of researchers and enthusiasts for generations. Its creation marked a significant shift in United States coinage, honoring a president on a circulating coin for the first time. On the obverse, the profile of Abraham Lincoln faces right, accompanied by the inscriptions of liberty and trust. The reverse features two stylized wheat ears framing the denomination and the country of origin. What makes this particular issue incredibly famous is the prominent placement of the designer's initials, V.D.B., at the base of the reverse design, a feature that was quickly removed shortly after production began. This example is certified in Almost Uncirculated 50 condition, preserving the fine details of Victor David Brenner's historic design.
