1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent Brilliant Uncirculated

0.0000 troy oz 1909 Uncirculated

The 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent stands as one of the most famous and sought-after treasures in American numismatics. Minted in San Francisco during the very first year of the Lincoln penny series, this copper coin represents a major transition in United States coinage. With a remarkably low mintage of only 484,000 pieces, its scarcity has fascinated observers for generations. The obverse of the coin features the classic, dignified bust of Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by the inscriptions of liberty and trust. The reverse design showcases two stylized wheat ears framing the denomination. What makes this particular issue incredibly famous is the prominent placement of the designer's initials, VDB, located at the bottom of the reverse design. This detail was removed shortly after production began, making the surviving San Francisco specimens with these initials highly prized historical artifacts.
