The 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent represents one of the most famous chapters in United States coinage. Struck during the inaugural year of the Lincoln penny series, this particular copper coin emerged from the San Francisco Mint, as indicated by the small S mint mark beneath the date. It is highly recognized for bearing the initials of its designer, Victor Brenner, on the reverse side. The obverse of the coin displays the classic profile portrait of Abraham Lincoln, facing right. Above his likeness, the words IN GOD WE TRUST are inscribed, with LIBERTY positioned to the left and the year 1909 struck on the right. This design marked a significant departure in American coinage history, celebrating an actual historical figure on a circulating coin. On the reverse, two stylized wheat ears frame the central inscriptions of ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is positioned at the top curve, while the initials V.D.B. are placed at the very bottom edge.
