In 1910, the San Francisco Mint struck a relatively small run of just over six million Lincoln cents, making this early copper issue a compelling piece of American numismatic history. This particular coin survives in Good to Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a piece that circulated widely during the early twentieth century. Created by sculptor Victor David Brenner, the coin's obverse features the classic right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln, a design that revolutionized American coinage by placing a historical figure on a regular-issue coin. Above the president's likeness, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, with "LIBERTY" positioned to the left and the date "1910" with the "S" mint mark below it. The reverse of the coin is defined by two stylized stalks of wheat framing the denomination "ONE CENT" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Brenner's initials are also present on the reverse, marking this as a classic example of the beloved wheat penny series that would capture the imagination of generations of coin enthusiasts.
